BabyMoon Staycation

Getting away before our little one comes

Why we decided to do a BabyMoon staycation right here in San Diego, California.

Looking back now, I am so glad we took time to do a BabyMoon trip. Even though it was only 4 days long, our little babymoon was exactly what we needed.

We would have loved to celebrated our babymoon in Hawaii. But we really wanted to conserve our vacation time for when our little guy arrives. That was important to us. After making that decision it was clear that we were going to be doing it over the weekend and only taking Monday and Friday off. And since that meant only 4 days, we didn’t want to travel too far and waste our valuable vacation time commuting. So we landed on the idea of staying at a local AirBnB in Encinitas, CA. By staying local it also cut the costs tremendously. No need for purchasing flights or car rentals.

We decided to do our BabyMoon on Easter weekend, taking advantage of the holiday.

Here is what we had planned:

Friday we checked into the cutest one bedroom studio, minutes away from downtown Encinitas. Colin unloaded his surfboard, and we bought a pizza and got all settled in for the night.

Taking notes on how the owners renovated this little one bedroom studio. I just love how they styled it and were clever in creating storage space in little nooks.

Saturday morning we woke up and grabbed brunch at Lazy Acres, a local organic grocery store with the best breakfast buffet in town. You have to try their gluten free chocolate donuts.

I think that was the best take away from our little trip. It’s not where you go or what you do, but just spending the quality time together, that’s what mattered.

I planned the first activity, which was visiting a new plant nursery in Leucadia, called Landmark Plant Company. Afterwards, we had scheduled a couples massage at Four Moons Spa. A gorgeous hidden oasis. The minute you set foot into this place your worries already start to melt away. After our massages, we stayed in our robes, and drank herbal tea while watching the coy pond. It was so nice to just relax the two of us, letting go of all our baby worries.

Sunday we bought an umbrella and spent the entire day at the beach. And to our surprise, since it was Easter Sunday, there was not a single person out. We had the whole beach to ourselves! Colin spent most of the day surfing. Since I was very pregnant, I sat on the beach under my new giant umbrella, eating watermelon and working on a macrame project.

That afternoon we headed back to our AirBnB to pack up and head home. I was so sad to leave. I could have spent a week in that tiny one bedroom studio, just exploring the town. We still look back fondly at the times, when it was just us.
