What’s your background?
I graduated college with a degree in Graphic Design. Initially, I was designing patterns for a stationery company in Los Angeles. When I moved back to San Diego I started working in the bio-tech industry where I transitioned over to web design. I became a User Experience Designer for a health company, where I was one of the lead UX designers for seven years. I specialized in creating ideal web experiences with the user in mind.
Your an illustrator too?
Yup. Before I became a graphic designer I was just a little girl who liked to doodle underwater seascapes in my notebook. I never thought that my love for doodling would lead to my profession in design. But, here we are!
Have you always lived in San Diego?
Yes! I am one of the very few who are born and raised in Southern California. You’d be surprised how rare it is to meet another native San Diegan in San Diego. It’s a beautiful city that attracts people from all over the nation to come make their home here. But, it’s also very crowded and expensive, so don’t live here.
How do I pronounce your name?
My name is Dewi. Phonetically, it is pronounced “day-wee.” A name that originates from Bali, Indonesia where my dad is from.
How many kids do you have?
I have a son, who will be one years old in July 2020. (I honestly can’t believe how quickly time is moving). And I’m also a fur mama to a Belgian Mal - German Shepherd mix pup, named Kai. So technically, I have two kids. One listens to me, the other child likes to eat socks and bang walls.
favorite travel destination?
I love traveling. I try to get away at least once a year. And in all my travels, my heart belongs to Japan. Maybe it’s all the years of watching anime as a kid, but I just felt so at home there. The people are kind and respectful, the temples are breath taking, and there’s just a peacefulness to the country that I have never experienced before. Plus, the green tea vending machines on every corner and the sushi, are just pathways to my heart.
